Ok it is exam time. How are your preparations going. Hope well. Have you gone through your work done from your text book? Remember practice makes perfect!!! Do you know how to work our 10% or 20% or how about 5% of an amount.
Ok let us see;
What is 10% of R30? Close your eyes and scroll down.
Did you get R3. Good for you!!!
Now how would you get 5% of R30. Do you know? Scroll down and let's see.
Work out 10% which you can do easily. I mean all you have to do is to divide by 10. But remember don't tell anyone our rule as mathematically it is not correct - move the decimal place one giant step. Ok you have it - it is R3. now 5% is half of 10% so what do you think you do with the half of 10%? Yes clear thing you divide that by 2 to give you 5%. Half of R3 is ???
Yes you have it. R1.50.
Keep on learning and you will be amazed at what you can achieve. I will keep on posting oh I have forgotten I am off for the weekend. Learn hard for Monday's maths. Only you can make it happen.
Bye.

SPIDERS ON THE WEB
"Dad, where had you been?" asked Jack.
"I had been to the attic, my son," replied Dad. "And do you know what I saw there? There was a big web with 20 spiders and flies on it?"
"How many spiders were there?" asked the little boy with curiosity.
"Well, there were a total of 130 legs on the web," answered Dad with a smile.
"Now you can find out how many spiders were there?"
Can you help the little boy find out how many spiders were on the web in the attic?

Exams are over. I bet you are pleased. Ok a lot of you struggled with this one but you just need to train you mind to see the catches. Let's have another good look at it.You are asked what is the size of angle ABC? Oh dear how are you going to work that out. I hope you all remember what is sum of all interior angles of a triangle. Interior meaning the inside angles. As you can see the only angle they show at A is an outside angle. That is no good. Ok but let's use this information that they have given you. You are missing two angles angle B and angle A.
How will you work out the missing angle at A? If you fathom it out come and whisper in my ear in class, because you are now on the right track to be able to work it out. The size of angle C is 25 degrees and remember they want to know what is the size of angle B? Good luck and give it a try. Use my clue dective.

PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
HOW MANY HOUSES?
Bay Street has between 1 and 15 houses, numbered 1, 2, 3, and so on. Mr Sullivan lives in one of the houses. The sum of all the houses numbers less than his equals the sum of all the houses numbers greater than his. How many houses are there on Bay Street?
Ok Grade 7's this is not a difficult one all it takes is a bit of investigation. If you don't get the answer the first time try again. Yes perserve - you will get it!!!
ENJOY!!!!

Ok this one is quite a difficult one. You could use trial and error.
Here are some equations to look at: see if you can understand these
sp + hr = 18
hr + m = 21
sp + m = 23
This is from the information you have been given. You could list all the numbers that equal 18.
eg. 1 + 17; 2 + 16; 3 + 15 etc and then do the same for the others and see if this help you solve the problem. Always remember to check if your answer is correct.
Ok if you want to try using equations here is help with the first step.
how are you going to solve sp + hr = 18?
sp = 18 - hr.
How are you going to solve the second equation which is hr + m = 21.
That is all for tonight guys. Will give you more clues tomorrow. See you tomorrow. Bye

Ok you wonderful Grade 7's - this week's problem.
Spa, Hannah-Rose and Matthew each have some money. The sum of Spa's and Hannah-Rose's money is R18. The sum of Hannah-Roxe's and Matthew's money is R21. The sum of Spa's and Matthew's money is R23. How much money do they have altogether?
Michael - excellent news about your Natal rugby trials. Best of luck for Wednesday.

Friday's problem solving
Write down exactly what key pieces of information you actually have?
What is the problem asking you to find out?
What are the important ideas in this problem? What strategies might you be able to use?
Do you think it is useful to make a table? If so, how?
What do you understand from the statement "All my three children are celebrating their birthday today?"
Do you think the last hint is very important? In what way?
How many possible answers are there that satisfy the first two hints?
Good luck and enjoy!!
